Downtime In the Village

In the past week, Mechtild the fighter continued her healing, she should be fully recovered by next week. Mayfly the conjurer has returned from his travels and studies and rejoins the party. He identifies the glowing blue sword that we took from the goblins as "Slasher," a +2 sword. We give it to Anston, a new fighter in the party. Sotar spent the week studying the books he has recovered from Nightwick. He uncovers two pieces of information - the demon Armadeus, whose servant the party has dealt with previously, seems to be especially strong within the Dark Country, where Nightwick is. Second, a long time ago, a baron of Averwaw sent his daughter to the abbey as a lay nun. Some in the party speculate that this could be the crying woman previously encountered, but we have no definite connection.

We decide to return to level two and attempt to steal a magical device we once found there capable of producing lightning. Mayfly prepares a scroll of Floating Disk in preparation.

Down to Level 2

On the landing to level two, we listen at a door and hear the sound of manimals beyond, possibly in the lightning room we need to go to. We send Liminal ahead into the darkness and he hears them to the north, not in the lightning room, but in the room with the sigils that activate the lightning room. We definitely don't want to mess with that Tesla coil with the manimals in that room. Liminal persuades Mayfly to hand over his golden skull which belonged to the Master, who the manimals venerate. Liminal Space thinks he can use it to persuade the manimals to help us.

Dealing with the Manimals

Liminal enters the room to find them expecting him - they saw our torchlight through the cracks in the door (Note: we gotta be more careful about that in the future). They are trying to fix one of the machines that the sigils control - apparently it is used to create more manimals. They're confused about Liminal holding the skull of the Master, and it isn't talking to him, so Mayfly takes it back to try to pacify the manimals, who have a habit of turning on us when it's adventageous for them. Mayfly asks the Master about the machine and how to befriend the manimals and he tells Mayfly to call them "Ignoramai." He does so and they instantly turn on us, recognizing that as the term used by the "fake master," Bloatus. The skull of the master laughs at us while two manimals hit Sotar badly, bringing him close to death. We retreat down the hallway to form a chokepoint while Liminal uses hypnotism to get one of the Manimals names Watcher, who had been tasked with watching us, to block the doorway. We kill the first rank of manimals and Mayfly casts light on another, blinding it. This is enough to get the rest of them to flee down the corridor to the east.

Loot and Bloatus

We find 16sp off of their bodies and go to the glyph room where they had been in. There are 6 glyphs on the floor. They are shaped like stairs, three different floral patterns, a flask, and a glowing brain. We know that the staircase one activates the tesla coil to the south. Blossom presses the floral glyphs and hears upset animal noises from the west. She presses the glyph again and the sound dies down. Done with expirementing, we retrieve the tesla coil with several crowbars and some rope. Mayfly is able to place its value at 100gp - quite a haul for us. Right as we finish, Liminal Space is the first to hear screaming down the hall, coming towards us. Poking his head out of the room, he sees a green pulsating light shining from around the corner. "That's Bloatus," says the skull of the Master. With the tesla coil already secured to the floating disk, we decide to book it out of there, but before we leave the floor, we get a glimpse of Bloatus - a giant, green, glowing caterpillar. I'm sure we'll have more dealings with him, but we leave straight out of Nightwick for the week with our haul.

Back in the village, we sell the tesla coil to Halfdan, the local mage if ill repute, and celebrate a delve into the abbey with no casualities.
