Previously, on Nightwick Abbey...

Last week, while on the road to Blackleg, our intrepid crew stumbled upon some pilgrims who had just escaped imprisonment in a nearby village.

Being a bunch of goody two-shoes, we decided to help free their still-captive brethren.

We scouted out the village and decided to wait one more day to await Mayfly's return and to let Thekla prepare Invisibility.

Big Damn Heros

The next morning we return to the edge of the village and send out Pataki and Hartnid to scout the area for us.

Thekla casts Invisibility on them both (technically Invisibility 10' Radius on Pataki) and they go ahead to explore the beastman village.

They think they count 150 people there in a 70/30 split of beastmen to humans and at least 1 large ogre.

They noticed a beastman bringing a suspiciously large amount of suspicious meat to the mill.

They go into the mill and discover the remaining pilgrims guarded by a Devilman and beastmen

There's about 30 prisoners packed inside, all malnourished looking.

Two Half-Baked Plans Gets You the Whole Damn Loaf

They return back to the party and we attempt to make a plan

We make a plan to set a building on fire, Gerlach using his longbow, while the rest of the group goes to the mill.

Pataki will knock out a guard and Ulf will use Charm Person on the Devilman

The party splits up, Gerlach, Pataki, and Hartnid in one group and the rest in the other.

As they make their way around the south edge of the village to their arson target, Gerlach and his buddies spy a Groan and several ogres heading towards the middle of the village.

They continue on to their target. Gerlach sets up in the woods outside of town and Pataki and Hartnid sneak up ahead to pour oil on the roof.

Unfortunately, a beastman happens to smell the oil as its being poured and calls fourth a group of his peers to take a nose gander at this weird smell with him.

And Here We Go

The rogues are taking longer than anticipated to return to Gerlach and he, seeing the crowd gather around the building, decides to fire his arrows.

He's some distance away and misses two consecutive shots, one landing right at the feet of a Devilman standing among the group.

He panics and flees into the woods.

Many of the beastmen chase after him, possibly more and Pataki and Hartnid take the opportunity to finish the plan.

Burn, Baby, Burn

Hartnid steps out of the invisibility circle centered on Pataki, lights the building on fire, returns to the circle and they flee.

An ogre spies him doing the deed and calls out for reinforcements.

Gerlach gets lost in the woods as he runs. We'll get back to him later.

The forces of the village appear to be congregating into two groups, one going to the fire and another going to the town church (is something valuable there?)

An Opening Opens Up

The mill guards also leave their post in the process.

Once the rogues regroup with the main group, we set off towards the mill at the edge of the village.

Poppy, with the Shard of Law, cuts into the mill and the party starts freeing the captives - there are 26 who still live.

Pataki and some other go off to get the horses and bring them up - many of the pilgrims are too weak to walk out, we realize.

We manage to get most on horses and the healthier pilgrims flee on foot with the party and we escape unnoticed.

Gerlach

Poppy and Liminal double back and are able to find Gerlach before anything untoward happens to him and we set back off towards Blackleg.

Onward and Outward

14th of Youngers, 1399

The day draws late and we camp in the woods and set off first thing in the morning.

The rescuees tell us that they were being force-fed human meat in an attempt to turn them into ogres

The white shifts that they wear were given to them by an older witch-esque figure.

By the evening we reach Blackleg without incident and spend the night in an inn before continuing on our mission.
