Session 137 - 4th of December 1399
This week's adventurers:
Blossom (Rogue 6)
Mayfly (Magician 6)
Ulf (Magician 6)
Poppy (Fighter 6)
Liminal Space (Changeling 5)
Hirelings: Hartnid (Rogue 3), Baldekinus, Elger, idk a bunch others?, Catherine
Downtime in the Village
Last week, Pataki's body was overtaken by a host of demons.
We managed to subdue her in part by sending in a disembodied undead (dead) necromancer to possess her body instead.
This week, Ulf and Gerung consult with the town Sewing Bee, a powerful group of pagan magicians, for a solution.
They speak of Knecht Ruprecht, a servant of Father Winter who resides at his shrine south of Blackleg.
According to the Mothers of the Sewing Bee, "He is known for banishing the sin of Naughtiness through beatings."
He might be able to save Pataki from possession.
Into the Dark Country
And so we set off to Blackleg to save her.
Blossom hires a Brigand, Catherine, to bolster our rank and Liminal Space hires Blossom to steal a letter from the Dutchess of Blackleg in order to woo his Genie (it makes about as much sense in context).
It's a balmy day when we leave Nightwick village.
We take Pataki's chart, with her chained up in the back.
Blossom scouts out ahead for us.
Dead in the Daylight
As she comes across a bend in the road, she is surprised by 8 Blind Dead, giving veneration to an escarpment with an intricate carving on the side.
The undead fall upon her as she flees back to the party, attempting to warn us as the dangers ahead.
They follow closely behind her, weapons drawn.
Liminal uses his magic amulet and prays to the God of Law and is able to Turn Undead.
The Blind Brothers crumble to dust and we continue on.
We examine the rock face that the Blind Brothers were kneeling before
Is bears a depiction of the sword brothers being led by an enormous figure, the size of a giant, dressed like a king.
We continue on and make camp halfway to Knightpath.
5th of December
The night and next day pass uneventfully and we make it to Knightpath.
Upon arriving in town, we have to explain why we have a tied up woman in the back of a cart.
Liminal explains that it's all a part of a circus routine and we carry enough collective infamy as a group that no one really questions it.
6th of December
We spend the night in town and set out the next morning.
Blossom spies a large group on the road ahead of us, it looks like bandits.
Many are busy relieving themselves by the side of the road and they do not notice us.
Mayfly casts sleep upon the group - a large number drop and the rest flee.
Blossom and Poppy fire arrows off at some of the fleeing members, dropping more.
We search the bandits - and they are indeed bandits - and we find 290 copper coins and a large number of assorted weaponry (5 bows, 5 crossbows, 40 arrows, 50 quarrels, 3 axes, 3 short swords, 4maces).
We also strip leather armor (10) off the sleeping brigands and load it and all the weapons and coins on the cart next to a writhing Pataki.
Poppy takes the Shard of God, her magic sword and a mildly heretical holy relic, and uses it to shovel a heap of excrement from Pataki's poop cart onto the chest of each sleeping brigand.
That's an important detail from the session, I promise.
We camp another night in the wilderness, without incident.
7th of December
As we set out in the morning, we hear the deafening sound of hand cannons in the distance
Blossom sees a caravan of Froglings, a group of wolves fleeing away from them into the forest.
They are with the Van Bull House and we are able to sell our bandit gear to them.
We get 27gp, 4sp for everything.
Frogguts: A Nice Place to Live
We continue on and soon reach Frogguts
The town lies mostly in ruins and is in the process of being swallowed up by the swamp.
On the outskirts is a large manor house ran by the Frogling trading houses
We're allowed to sleep in the stable.
They tell us there's a Shrine of St. Santa Claus off to the west a couple miles we could stay at as well, but we decline.
A stable's fine and time is of the essence.
8th of December - Making More Friends in Blackleg
We continue south in the morning for Blackleg.
Blossom startles and is startled by a man in the bush in full armor and horseback.
"Whoa, what manner of fox are you?" he asks.
As they talk, two crossbowmen come up the road and she see a camp set up on the road beyond them.
From their banners, they are probably a patrol of Blackleg
Liminal and the lead man get into it, and as tensions rise, he and Mayfly send the three of them to sleep with magic.
They convince the rest of the group in camp that it is the result of a disease and order them to stay away.
They believe us and we manage to pass by them without further consequence.
As night sets in, a freezing mist rolls in and we make camp.
9th of December - A Groan Approaches
The night passes uneventfully but the mist still clings to the ground in the morning.
As we travel south, Blossom finds a Groan off in the distance.
It's a hideous, tree-like giant who hates humans.
She hides, but it smells her and calls out, looking for her
Mayfly arrives and replies to the creature,
"Stay you hand and stay your appetite. We have killed many of your kind..."
Mayfly is hit by a great clump of earth the Groan throws at him.
Ulf casts Lightning Bolt, which rips through the creature.
One of its arms is almost entirely ripped off and tiny fires are starting among its branches.
Unfortunately, the creature still stands.
Mayfly finishes it off with a fireball.
We manage our way into the city without further incident.
The evening grows late and we call our session there.
Next week, we hope to finally cure Pataki, before she turns into something worse. - Wish us luck.
