Session 116 - 1st of Youngers, 1399

This week's adventurers:

Blossom (Rogue 6)

Mayfly (Magician 6)

Ulf (Magician 5)

Liminal Space (Changeling 5)

Krupe (Cleric 5)

Poppy (Fighter 5)

Yevgeney the Coward (Cleric 4)

Pataki (Rogue 4)

Vestif (Rogue 1)

Hirelings: Hartnid (Rogue 1)

Downtime in the Village

A new player joins the crew and brings along Vestif, cattle rustler, seeking treasure and a violent death.

Today is Youngers 1st, the Feast Day of St. Notappearinginthisfilm, and our hirelings are given the day off in observance (except for Hartnid for some reason? Maybe we bullied him into coming with us).

Pataki heard a rumor of strange lights coming from the hilltop to the southeast of town where Nightwick Abbey lies.

Liminal went carousing and drank something funny - he's still shaking off some hallucinations as we depart. I swear this will come up again later.

Into the Abbey?

As we approach the hilltop, the ruins appear to have changed in shape!

Before where only two tower stuck up above the ground, there are now four towers with an expanded short wall surrounding them.

We decide to go into one of the new towers, the northern one.

We found this out later that, in honor of Walpurgis, Miranda added the original version of Nightwick Abbey into our world. That's what we explored tonight.

We climb down the tower and come across a wooden trap door, swollen shut

Some small holes are drilled (cut?) into the floor around the trapdoor.

Pataki forces open the trapdoor, but not without sliming the party.

A Real Basket Case

We see a shaft down with metal rungs stuck into the wall.

Not trusting the rungs, Mayfly and Blossom set up a makeshift piton with a metal spike and run a rope down.

He realizes that the holes around the trapdoors are from similar pitons of previous groups descended down this shaft.

We climb down, a short 15' drop into a 10' by 10' room with a single door.

Pataki forces open this door to reveal a staircase going down for 20' ahead of us, before turning left at a landing.

It continues down in a counterclockwise fashion for a bit until it opens up into both a chamber and a room filled with rotten baskets. Ahead of us (map north?) is a door.

As we advance, one of the baskets tips over and three short creatures jump out. They have the bodies of rats and the heads of a vulture. One surprises Mayfly and jumps upon him and slashes his face.

A Little Shortsighted

Two more leap out of baskets and all five attack Mayfly.

Many land blows and one manages to snatch his right eye out of his skull!

More come flooding out of the baskets as blood streams down his face.

Liminal Space casts Phantasmal Force to mimic the effects of Fireball.

This knocks all but two rats unconscious while Yevgeney casts Cure Light Wounds on Mayfly.

We finish off the unconscious rats, the other two run away, and Mayfly searches the dead rats for his eye.

He finds is, but its too damaged for whatever he planned for it and fashions an eyepatch for himself out of a strip of his robe.

A Deal Made

His familiar tugs at his arm and whispers to him you'll have to give your other eye to her. Then how will you see Mayfly, how will you see? Hehehehe.

Blossom listens at the door and hears voices speaking in Crowleyan, the language of demons and devils.

We force open the door to reveal a corridor that goes to the right to a 4-way intersection.

We think the voices are coming from the north.

More Fighting

We advance down the hallway and see a group of Devilmen, waiting for us with crossbows drawn.

With some well placed spells, we kill or incapacitate every one of them.

They were in a 30' by 20' room, with doors to the north and south (where we came from).

The Devilmen had been playing cards before their demise.

His Majesty the Changeling

Ulf shuffles the deck and offers to Liminal.

He draws the 6 of Wands, which triggers a hallucination.

We are all knights, mounted in a great hall, carrying wands for lances.

While Liminal is shaking off his vision, we search the room.

A Good Vintage

There are casks in the room - Mayfly tastes out of one of their cups and finds it to be wine.

To the north is an archway with a bare 10' by 10' room.

Vestif collects a crossbow and bolts from the dead while Liminal searches the room for a secret passage, but finds nothing.

The rogues come in and search more thoroughly.

Blossom finds two small holes in the northern wall of the room. - big enough to stick two fingers in.

She sticks crossbow bolts in the holes and a section of wall in the Devilman's room rises up to revel a secret room.

We Keep Tempting Fate

In the room is a pedestal with another set of cards on it and a lockbox.

Liminal Space rushes in and draws a card.

He draws Death.

He realizes that these cards are made out of a sheet of ivory and, luckily for him, not magical in any way.

Treasure!

Pataki values them at 1,000sp while Blossom sense a trap in the lockbox - its lock is fake and sprays acid.

Liminal opens the box facing away from him and Pataki counts 250 silver coins.

We leave the room and go south, through the 4-way intersection and spy a strangely shaped room with a baptismal font.

Back to the Village

The night draws late and we book it out of the abbey from there.

The treasure we recovered includes:

  • 2 Wine casks (500sp)
  • Ivory playing cards (1,000sp)
  • 250sp in coins

We gain 263xp and 184sp 2cp each.
