Session 122 - 26th of Leftember, 1399

This week's adventurers:

Blossom (Rogue 6)

Mayfly (Magician 6)

Thekla (Magician 5)

Ulf (Magician 5)

Liminal Space (Changeling 5)

Poppy (Fighter 5)

Pataki (Graverobber 4)

Yevgeny the Coward (Cleric 4?)

Felix (Dwarf 1)

Hirelings: Hartnid (Rogue 1)

Downtime in the City

Liminal spends the week in Blackleg carousing and commits some unspeakable deed to get himself declared an outlaw. He spends the rest of his time hanging out with Ulf on the outskirts of town.

A new player joins our group, rolling up Felix the dwarf, a former servant of a rival house to the Talbots in town.

We decide this week to infiltrate the Talbot house and extract revenge and/or rob them for sending bounty hunters after Thekla.

Blossom uses her criminal contacts to get information about the Talbots and discovers that they owe a great debt to the Sheldons, another local powerful family.

The Jabba's Palace Gambit

We concoct a plan where Poppy, Yevgeny, and Liminal, posing as bounty hunters, will pretend to bring in Mayfly as their prisoner and the others (Hartnid, Pataki, Ulf, Blossom, and Thekla) will sneak into the house invisibly.

Felix will attempt to get a foot in the door with the other servants, posing as a job seeker to let the invisible group in.

Heist Time

27th of Leftember, 1399

The next day, we split off into our three groups to head to the Talbot house via different routes.

The bounty hunter group runs into a group of eunuchs dancing in front of the Talbot house, looking for one of their friends inside.

Felix befriends a footman, claims to be seeking employment, bribes him with fine wine.

In and Up

He makes a show of closely examining the door to allow the invisible group to sneak inside. There's some commotion in the courtyard on the ground floor and so we are able to sneak up to the 2nd floor unnoticed.

Our plan is to ransack the 2nd floor for anything valuable.

In the courtyard, the bounty hunters arrive and the patriarch of the Blackleg Talbots, Noldil Talbot, is ready to kill Mayfly on the spot, but the group demands payment first.

What Interesting NPCs

With Noldil are his sons, twin brothers, the younger brothers of the noble who Mayfly blew up.

The burglars try to head into the family's private quarters, for stealing purposes, and overhear a conversation between servants about how the killed brother - Bartlemabis - left the twins each as a potential heir. One has no interest in the family business - being official wolfcatcher for the countess - and the other has crippling gambling addiction.

The servants leave and we sneak in after them. The room is a fancy bedroom, divided in half with a line of chalk - the twins' room.

Worst Mountain Ever

Felix is chatting up some servants - apparently the heir struggle has made the twins go from "pretty big assholes to king shits of dick mountain," that's official servant terminology.

As he's drinking and talking, his dwarf ears hear the sound of people moving something heavy outside - he investigates and sees two guards in heavy armor carrying a trunk between them.

They struggle with the chest and accidentally drop it in the courtyard, spilling a great number of copper coins. - That's a lot of money, but not nearly enough to be the entire bounty.

They were trying to cheat us out of our full bounty! - We suddenly remember all the times our DM mentioned how the Talbots were broke and in debt - this checks out.

"Oh shit," someone in the courtyard says, and the groups draw their swords as tensions mount.

15 Seconds Later But Also It's The Next Week

Session 123 - 27th of Leftember, 1399

This week's adventurers:

Blossom (Rogue 6)

Thekla (Magician 5)

Ulf (Magician 5)

Liminal Space (Changeling 5)

Pataki (Graverobber 4)

Yevgeny the Coward (Cleric 4)

Felix (Dwarf 1)

Hirelings: Hartnid (Rogue 1)

Straight into the Action

Liminal starts off combat with Phantasmal Force and Mayfly casts sleep, putting down all the guards and the two sons, leaving only Father Talbot standing.

Linimal hypnotizes the lord of the house and Yevgeny beats him with a mace.

Guards come running into the courtyard and the upstairs group comes running downstairs behind them.

Who Needs Lightning Bolt When You Have A Rogue

A whole group of guards now stands between the courtyard group and the invisible burglars - Blossom hits them with her lightning spear that she got from the bounty hunters.

She blasts the whole group, killing several and sending the other guards fleeing.

Yevgeny finally kills the Lord and Liminal runs around, killing the other unconscious foes with a knife.

Treasure, Treasure, and Treasure

The rest of the fake bounty hunters search the bodies and find a good bit of magical loot:

It takes time to identify magic items, which we will do between sessions, but for convenience's sake, I'll include what they do here, even though we don't know yet.

An amulet with runes, on the Lord's body - Amulet of Protection From Scrying

A magic sword, also on his body - Wolfhound, a sword +1/+3 vs lycanthropes

The non-gambling brother has a magic ring with a smooth triangular gemstone on it - Ring of Fire Resistance

As the crowd flees the house, Thekla robs the lady of the house for a total of 1500sp worth of coinage and goods along with some valuable tapestries worth another 1500sp. The lady's lock box has another 1500sp.

Back Home

After this, we use the cover of the commotion to sneak out of town and immediately hit the road to return to Nightwick Village.

From our adventure today, we each get 829xp and 642sp, 8cp
