Session 125 - 24th of Quintember, 1399
This week's adventurers:
Blossom (Rogue 6)
Mayfly (Magician 6)
Ulf (Magician 5)
Liminal Space (Changeling 5)
Poppy (Fighter 5)
Pataki (Rogue 4)
Yevgeny the Coward (Cleric 4?)
Felix (Dwarf 1)
Hirelings: Hartnid, Baldekinus
Downtime in the Village
Ulf carouses by studying and gains a loathsome familiar - a wolpertinger.
He can now cast charm person (-2 save penalty) or charm monster (no save penalty) once per day, learn spells from the monster, and see through its eyes.
Additionally, he must feed the monster some of his blood (or someone else's) each day and he will be unable to be raised from the dead should he die.
We decide this week to take newest member Felix the Dwarf down to level 4 of Nightwick after a tour of level 1 last week, in which the party defeated an old foe of the group.
Into the Abbey
The hillside surrounding the buried abbey is covered in a wirey weed. Mayfly takes a clipping of some and gives it to Felix, encouraging him to study (or smoke it) later.
Ulf disassociates and next thing we know the group has uneventfully made it to level 4, where we are peering down a hallway into the darkness, looking at a group of "Sabrina Carpenter sized" armored figures in the distance.
Blossom thinks they're aware of us and are actively trying to conceal themselves, hoping to ambush us.
She throws her magic javelin at two and lights up the group with lightning.
Three are burnt up and a great deal of blood spills out onto the floor.
To Battle!
The final armored figure approaches us and spews boiling hot blood at our front rank, blinding Liminal Space.
As we rest and try to get Liminal cleaned up from the blood, Mayfly peers around the corner and sees several bird-headed ghouls further in the dark.
Another One!
He quickly blows them up with a Fireball, and chunks of blackened gore explode all over the hallway as they go up in flames.
We continue south through the level and stumble upon a dark hallway - the leftovers from a long ago battle where some horrid creatures cast Continual Darkness. We still haven't bothered to clear it out.
We go west to go around the darkness and stumble onto a room full of ghouls, again!
And Another!
Ulf casts Lightning Bolt into the room, bouncing it off a back wall. He blasts 8 ghouls into smithereens, leaving 2 remaining.
The final ghouls run away and we search the rooms in the area.
As we enter a room, a being drops upon dear Hartnid!
One More Battle
It is a horrendous being made of talons, beaks, eyes all in the wrong places, a demon prince of Hell, it lashes out at him and strikes him down.
It breaks his arm with a horrendous crack and Hartnid collapses to the ground, unconscious.
Two more demons appear behind him - unluckily for us, Miranda rolled "restocked enemies" on 4 of the 5 rooms in this hallway. She later describes it as a "Hallway of Terrors"
Ulf casts Lightning Bolt, killing two and Liminal Space casts Phantasmal Force in the image of a Fireball, causing the last one to collapse unconscious.
Pataki stabs it, killing it and we bind Hartnid's wounds.
Any Fucking More Battles?
In the final two rooms of the hallway are two sarcophaguses. One depicts the Queen of Hell, Asmodea, dressed as a Pharaoh-type figure. Think Hatshepsut. Four hausmasters are depicted as bowing down to her.
The other sarcophagus must have been nondescript because I didn't write down any description of it.
We search the smashed in sarcophagus beneath the mural and find a plethora of treasures!
We come out with: and iron crown worth 150sp and five thigh rings each worth 250sp.
Back to the Village
At that, we decide to head home with our treasure and still-living hirelings.
We come out with 1,700sp worth of treasure (200sp each) and we each additionally receive 594xp!
