Session 126 - 7th of Sextember, 1399
This week's adventurers:
Blossom (Rogue 6)
Mayfly (Magician 6)
Ulf (Magician 5)
Liminal Space (Changeling 5)
Poppy (Fighter 5)
Pataki (Rogue 4)
Felix (Dwarf 2)
Hirelings: Baldekinus, Hertel, Cuncze
Downtime in the Village
Mayfly finishes learning the spell Knock and Ulf searches for more hirelings to throw at the monsters of Nightwick - He hires a filthy peasant named Hertel and a normal woodsman named Cuncze.
We decide to return to level 4 of Nightwick Abbey in search of either Plutus or a path down to level 5.
Down Into the Abbey
As we step off the stairs, Liminal peers off into the darkness of the next room and sees a mass of ghouls crouched in anticipation.
They win initiative and charge at us out of the dark, their bird-like beaks snapping in anticipation.
The front ranks set their spears to catch the charge while Blossom, Baldekinus, and Cuncze ping the group with arrows.
Ulf casts Lightning Bolt, killing two ghouls, leaving one standing.
Creative Treasure Solutions
The final ghouls is cut down by the spears and Felix jumps to cut open a ghoul with his knife, curious what is inside.
He finds a bejeweled gauntlet worth 750sp!
Somehow, we've never tried to cut open a ghoul before - I promise this isn't a mistake we'll make twice.
We continue onward towards the realm of Plutus on level 4. The air is thick, like there's a humidifier filled with Gak in the room.
We come to a closed door and the air grows thicker and Gakier but Blossom hears nothing behind it.
Mayfly forces open the door, though not without getting the group slimed.
Dungeons Unknown
Beyond the door is not what the group expected to see, based on our prior maps, but instead there is a 20' hallway ending in a large room filled with a thick mist.
The abbey has shifted after one of our previous visits. We'll have to redo our mapping.
We've encountered strange mist-vampires before, could this be more of them?
Mayfly lobs a fireball to where he thinks the center of the room is. A great screaming erupts as the room is engulfed in flames and clears up.
Yep. Vampires.
We now see the room is 20' by 30' with doorways ahead of us and to our left (map south and east, respectively) and to our right (presumably map west) is the howling void of nothingness.
ダンジョン考古学
On the left wall is a sandstone wall with inscriptions containing many names. An eye has been stamped over each name on the wall.
Mayfly wants to take the time to copy down the list of names on the wall - he thinks it's something akin to a King's List - but it will take several turns, so we spike the doors to keep things out while he does so.
As we begin, a great shaggy beast springs out of the void and swings at Ulf!
Combat!
...but misses.
The party rushes to melee the demon and Ulf casts lightning bolt at the creature, for 8 damage and it screams from a mouth on its crotch.
Liminal casts Phantasmal Force on the creature but the spell has no effect and the great beast laughs it off.
Mayfly then captures the creature in a Web.
It is ensnared, but not forever as we lay a flurry of melee blows upon the creature.
This kills the creature, who erupts in a cloud of greasy black smoke.
Back to Writing Stuff Down
The doors spiked, Mayfly copies down the names on the walls.
During this time, Felix studies the construction of the walls and sees that it is done in the style of ancient Achorontic (think ancient Egyptian) but is not authentically so, being perhaps only 200 years old.
As he works on the third set of names, the names themselves, carved on the walls, begin to leak blood.
Mayfly asks his familiar what is going on and the creature laughs and tells him, my mistress celebrates, they are in Hell. They drown, drown.
As he completes the list, we hear a woman's laughter in the room.
Liminal scoops up some blood and splashes it on Felix's face - a Nightwick Baptism.
More Exploration
Having completed the list, we continue on ahead, map south.
Blossom listens at the door, checking for traps, then we proceed.
We enter a large 20' by 50' room with walls whitewashed and murals of the demoness (Asmodia, Queen of Hell?) frequently depicted on this level painted over them.
40' down, there's a door to the left and an opening to the right.
Let's Smash Ancient Pots Like We're Link
Three large pillars stand in the room as well.
There are three amphorae (large ceramic jars) in the room and while the rest of the party debates if they're filled with zombies or some horrible shit, Liminal smashes one open with a hammer, revealing it's filled with silver coins. Blossom estimates all three jars contain 1,000 silver pieces.
Back to the Village
We grab the two intact amphorae and scoop up the coins into sacks and make our way home from there.
Making our way quickly through the abbey, we return to the village without incident.
We come out with 1,750sp worth of treasure, 250sp each and we each receive 345xp.
