Session 127 - 14th of Sextember, 1399
This week's adventurers:
Blossom (Rogue 6)
Mayfly (Magician 6)
Ulf (Magician 5)
Liminal Space (Changeling 5)
Yevgeny the Coward (Cleric 4)
Pataki (Rogue 4)
Felix (Dwarf 2)
Hirelings: Baldekinus, Hertel, Hartnid (Fighter 2)
Downtime in the Village
Felix and Pataki spend the week carousing and after a long night of drinking, Felix wakes up with a blasphemous tattoo and Pataki similarly with a lame tattoo.
Liminal plans to repair the Orange Julius machine that we stole back in Session 36(!!!) by taking it to Father Winter's workshop, which will likely have to wait until winter.
Into the Abbey
We decide to continue our exploration of level 4 and the hunt for the demon Plutus.
As we enter level three through the graveyard entrance, Liminal scouts out ahead into the darkness.
He sees a figure shuffling up ahead in the dark.
Assuming it's undead, Liminal charges the figure, the rest of us following behind.
As he rushes in, he sees the figures (at least three of them he now sees) have flowering buds sprouting out from them - they're the fungal zombies!
How to Deal With a Zombie Infestation
Liminal Space immediately orders us to halt and give them space - their spores are incredibly toxic to life and will turn one of us quickly.
Mayfly casts Fireball into the center of the group, leaving only a smoldering crater in its wake.
Inspecting the group, they appeared to have been clustered around a stone chest, left unharmed by the Fireball.
Inside, we find 750 pieces of silver.
Pataki shovels the coins out into Blossom's sack.
Weird
She notices that the coins have the face of the current Bishop of Lychgate on it, despite being in an ancient chest.
Onward and Downward
From there, we make it the rest of the way to level 4 without hassle.
We go south to the room of the King's List from last week and Pataki tries to force open the door east from here.
She struggles with the door and Blossom senses a cold presence on the other side of the door.
When Life Gives You Ice Traps...
Blossom gets the door open to reveal a 30' by 30' room with a door on the other side. Two statues of humanoids with vultures' heads stand facing each other on the left and right sides of the room.
Mayfly throws a coin between the statues which reveals a pale ice-blue beam coming out from the statues which shatters the coin.
Liminal attempts to approach the statue from the side and put a sack over one, but this just freezer burns a hole through the sack.
It's Like a Reverse Flagpole Trick
He tries again with a spare mace we have and it sticks to the face of the statue, frozen. The other statue is now continually shooting its freeze ray at it, cooling down the room. He then uses Pataki's shovel to do the same to the other statue.
After testing with a coin that it is now safe to cross, we run across the room quickly, as the shovel head starts to crack.
Pataki makes Liminal swear he will replace her beloved shovel and we go through the next door to a room 50' wide and 30' deep with 8 columns.
The room is littered with strange crushed insects - we've been here before before the Abbey last shifted!
The walls depict the Sword Brothers fighting ancient Acheorontic Kings (think Knights Templar fighting ancient Greek kings).
Familiar Territory
We've been here before and the next room south should be familiar as well, and so we go that way just to check.
Sure enough, we come into a 60' by 30' room with columns. In the doorway opposite us stand 3 Fly-Men.
How to Win Friends and Influence Flies
Liminal talks to them, flirts with them a little bit, and they bid us to go along our way but to not go where they came from.
This intrigues him and so he immediately casts Phantasmal Force, in the image of a Lightning Bolt, over them.
The Fly-Men are left standing, but swaying in a daze.
Like a Thanksgiving Turkey
After more crossbow bolts and Hypnotism, we drop the Fly-Men and, for good measure, rip into their corpses looking for treasure - we find 300sp worth of gold in their stomachs.
Mayfly checks the secret door in the room, opening it to reveal a torrent of blood spilling out into the room.
More Blood in This Dungeon Than Evil Dead
Seven of the armored figures who spit boiling blood are standing there, ready to attack.
They blind Mayfly and Blossom lets loose her last magical spear.
As her throw lands, a great crash of thunder rings out and the armored figures drop down.
Behind the dead blood knight, in the secret room, are two large leather boxes.
Fuck You, More Monsters
As we rest after the fight, before we can even check the boxes, we are set upon from behind by ferocious beasts.
They are great shaggy humanoid beasts - demons. Knights of Asmodea.
Aaron Hartnid Will Never Die
They attack and Hertel is killed, his head cleanly ripped off and Hartnid is wounded. Hartnid loudly and poorly feigns death and falls to the ground.
Ulf casts Lightning Bolt, hitting both demons but leaving them alive.
Liminal strikes one down with his sword and Mayfly webs the other. We finish it off while its trapped and we quickly load the leather boxes onto Mayfly's floating disk and leave the abbey.
Back to the Village
We make it to the village safely where we count our treasure and mourn our loss of Hertel.
We recover 2,050sp, 292sp, 8cp each.
We each receive 707xp.
