Mayfly (Magician 6)
Ulf (Magician 5)
Thekla (Magician 5)
Liminal Space (Changeling 5)
Poppy (Fighter 5)
Pataki (Rogue 4)
Felix (Dwarf 2)
Hirelings: Baldekinus, Hartnid (Rogue 2)
Downtime in the Village
Thekla and Felix go carousing this week.
Ulf petitions the local Sewing Bee (also a source of great pagan magic) for a scroll of Dispel Magic and obtains one for 700sp.
Into the Abbey
We return to Level 4 and Ulf dispels the Continual Darkness in the hallway to the south.
Doing so reveals a tripwire across the doorway!
We carefully step over it and find a crossbow trap beyond.
Pataki steals the crossbow and its single bolt.
Wevgo to the next room, what we call the Astrological Room, which depicts the current stars of the night sky.
Finding nothing new, we go south to where we fought Flymen last week and then east from there.
Further Into the Depths
Blossom listens at the door and hears three distinct noises:
1. the sound of vomiting
2. buzzing
3. the hiss of steam
Pataki forces open the door which opens to a 30' wide room, so deep we can't see the other side through the darkness.
The center of the room is a large gutter filled with steaming hot water.
There's at least 7 Flymen in the room.
Old-School Diplomacy
They call out to us:
"Begone, we know you have spoken to our brothers and they have died."
"You killed them when they were least suspecting"
Liminal steps forward to defend himself, "I would never ever ever ever do that - Lightning Bolt!"
He casts Phantasmal Force in the guise of Lightning Bolt upon the group, proving that their accusations were correct and well grounded.
J'mouche!
We lose initiative after this and all Flymen survived his spell and rush after us.
More rush in out of the darkness; there's at least 11 in total now.
Poppy is hit twice by their foul weapons and Liminal is hit mightily, for 20 damage.
Thekla casts Phantasmal Force and Ulf follows up with a real Lightning Bolt.
In the end, there is a single Flyman left who is neither unconscious or dead outright.
Poppy quickly finishes off the final Flyman then we bind wounds and rest from the fight.
Dissection in Dungeon
We next cut open their guts for their golden innards (10gp each, 110gp or 1100sp total)
Exploring the whole room, it's 100' deep, with two doors north and two south.
We take the first door north and open up a 30' by 20' room with a door on the opposite side. To our left and right are two baptismal fonts, painted to look like cauldrons. On one side the Lady, to the other St. Gax, are depicted being cooked alive by demons.
An acrid smell is in the air (like chlorine, though our characters don't know what that is).
Let's All Drink the Strange Liquid!
Mayfly drinks the water and feels refreshed (he gains 1d6 additional hitpoints for the delve).
Liminal tries some and to him it tastes just as water (no effect)
Pataki washes her hands in the water and feels it burn (she takes 1 damage).
She hears a voice in her head telling her to rub the water on Thekla.
Weird, I wonder if that voice will come up again later.
More Hallways
We open up the door north to reveal a 20' corridor that intersects in another hallway going to our left and right.
We've been here a long time age, when this hallway was in another part of the dungeon and facing another direction.
The hallway goes 20' west, as well as east and north. A door is also in the wall north.
There's a door that branches south from the hallway that we've never gone through before.
Fucked Up Shit
We force open the door to reveal a large creature that's just a mass of golden limbs.
A wave of terror falls over a mass of the party and several of us begin to flee.
Mayfly is among the few who resisted the monster's effects; he stands his ground and casts fireball upon the creature.
The golden creature shambles up to the remaining front rank and mashes Poppy for 7 damage.
Mayfly, running low on spells, panics and casts web upon the creature. With the groups magic weapons (mundane weapons turn out to have no effect), the group finishes it off while it is briefly stuck.
We bind wounds, regroup, and search the room.
Well-Earned Treasure
We find a reliquary containing a skull (5,000sp if Blossom lies about whose skull it is), a polished ammolite (3,000sp), and a phylactery (in the medieval sense, not a lich thing), which appears to be magical.
The brave group catches up with the feared group as we reach the stairs up.
Back to the Village
From there we call it a night and return to the village unscathed.
We each gain 1,215xp!
We also come back with 4,100sp, a reliquary, and a phylactery.
Mayfly convinces us to not sell the reliquary before he has a chance to study it.
Blossom, Pataki, and Felix all level up!
