Session 133 - 23rd of Shocktober 1399
This week's adventurers:
Blossom (Rogue 7)
Mayfly (Magician 6)
Ulf (Magician 6)
Thekla (Magician 5)
Liminal Space (Changeling 5)
Pataki (Rogue 5)
Felix (Dwarf 3)
Hirelings: Cuncze, Hartnid (Rogue 2), Merlyn (Fighter 1)
Downtime in the Village
Ulf identifies the magic ring as a ring of Control Human.
Late one night, prodded on by the evil voices in her head, Pataki, along with Liminal Space, sneak off to the church and set it ablaze.
Liminal accidentally steps on a sleeping priest, but he quickly puts him and another nearby priest to sleep with magic.
They pour oil all over the altar and interior of the church and Pataki sets it ablaze. Before they leave, the voice of evil in Pataki's head urges her to do the same to the priests, but she and Liminal spare them and drag the sleeping figures outside.
And they do! The priests are dead. Burned alive.
It becomes the talk of the town, with many folks (rightfully) suspecting our lot, however no one comes forward with a formal accusation or proof of Pataki and Liminal's misdeeds.
Mayfly seeks, with his magical fake eye, a great host of shadows surrounding Pataki.
In happier news, Ulf levels up through some carousing. He learns Clarivoyance as well.
Into the Dungeon
We delve into Nightwick Abbey yet again and pass through the 3rd level without incident and descend down to level 4 to continue our explorations and treasure-finding.
As we leave the first room, our back rank is set upon by two monsters - one with the head of a crow and the other the head of a beast, with a second, identical, head inset into its chest. They have lizard-like hands and a weird mix of hair and fur.
That Escalated Quickly
Cunze and Merlyn are hit and Cunze is slain!
He is stabbed through the back with a great fire poker and lifted up into the air. The creature laughs like the roar of the lion as it drinks the blood flowing down the weapon's handle.
The beasts of hell win initiative and fall upon Merlyn, killing her.
We fire missile at them but the bolts and arrows bounce harmlessly off their pelts - these are Demons of Hell, after all.
Thekla webs them and Ulf and Mayfly blast them with Lightning Bolt spells.
They survive the first bolt but not the second and evaporate into a foul black smoke.
Onward and Downward
We briefly mourn the dead and continue on through level 4.
As we try to force our way through a door in the northern end of the floor, we are beset upon by two more of these demons. Thekla is hit and Ulf is attacked but protected by his Shawl of Protection
Ulf casts Lightning Bolt at the pair, killing them! (good rolls + failed saves = one shot)
Pataki tries to force open the next door but fails horribly, she stabs the crowbar into the wood of the door instead and a strong torrent of purple goo sprays out over the party.
Gross
Blossom works the door properly and it opens into a 40' by 30' room with six pillars made of scabbed flesh.
Normal, Safe Treasure?
This is as far as we got last week, but today, there are several lumpen cloth bags sitting in the middle of the room.
We poke one with a silver spear and open it up to reveal some jewelry.
The bags contains a Livery Collar made of the sun and sword of the Sword Brothers' heraldry with a large red garnet in the shape of a blood drop.
Other, less interesting, jeweled items are also in the bag.
The whole kit is worth 750sp and we load it up and continue on our way.
The Game of Doors
We open up another door to the east which reveal a hallway.
The walls are a cold steel, it goes 40' down with a T intersection to our left (north) and two doors on the right hand wall (south).
There is another door on the left wall after the intersection.
We peer around the corner of the intersection and see the hallway goes 20' and ends in another door.
Start Knocking
We open the first door (labeled 10A above).
It opens to a 10' by 10' room that once served as a jail cell.
5-6 skeletons hang from shackles on each wall.
Thekla pokes the skeletons and around the room while Felix examines the walls.
Thekla pokes the center of the floor and hears the rattle of metal.
Felix casts Farie Fire, which he trades a portion of his soul to learn, and reveals an invisible bag of coins in the middle of the room.
We pack it up to take with us.
More Skeletons - Less Treasure
We go to the next door (10b) and open the door to reveal another 10' by 10' jail cell, with corpses packed together too tightly
We search this room the same but find nothing.
Back to the Village
The night draws late and we depart to return to the village above, satisfied with our delve.
The recovered bag contains 1000 silver coins, we later count!
We each receive 474xp and 2,750sp worth of treasure in total!
