Session 113 - 13th of Primes. 1399

Hirelings: Demut the Man-Slayer (Fighter 1), Fryzcho, Vridil

Downtime in the Village

Ulf begins studying to learn the spell Fly, and Mayfly fails to learn the spell Summon Elemental.

Liminal hires a fighter by the name of Demut the Man-Slayer and Ulf hires two woodsman, kicked out of the woodsman lodge after converting to the Church of the Law.

Into the Abbey

Emboldened by tales of the defeat of Great King Death from last week's delve, the party decides to descend to level 4 to further explore and possibly confront Plutus, the demon lord of the level.

We make it to level 4 without incident, following our own well-worn path.

As we begin traversing the dungeon towards Plutus' domain, we hear a grinding sound coming from the darkness in the room to the south of us.

Assault on the Castle

We spend the night in the castle after our fight, resting from our long fight.

Throughout the night, several of us are tormented by nightmares, of unspeakable horrors committed by the Sword Brothers in days gone past and of the very walls around us infested with eyeballs, watching us.

Taking Stock

In the morning, we take our time rounding up the loot across the first and second floors of the castle.

We find (along with their listed values):

• A valuable tapestry depicting the Lady (500sp)

• A fancy table (250sp)

• A barrel of salt pork (2 weeks of rations for 1 person)

• 25sp in coins among the dead bandits

• A decorative doublet from Nun's Head (discussed last session)

Assault on the Castle

We ended last session arriving back at the bandits' castle that Brother Noj had hired us to retake.

We arrive late in the evening and decide to make our assault that night, before they discover in the morning that we had ambushed their patrol.

Using the map Pataki had drawn, we make a plan.

Our spell casters are all low level and our spell selection is limited. We have 2 Sleep spells, 2 Hold Portals, and a Floating Disk and Invisibility.

Planning this assault was a ton of fun; we had to figure out how to use a limited selection of spells and fighting prowess to handle an overwhelming force of opponents. Let's see how we did.

We make a plan to use Hold Portal to hold off reinforcements so we can take on the ogre alone.

Into the Dark

We enter the keep, seemingly unnoticed in the dark and enter the entrance chamber, a 10' by 30' room.

Once inside, the pale light of the waxing moon no longer shines upon us and Pataki lights a torch to guide our way.

Previously On...

Last week, the party was charged by a strange priest, Brother Noj of Ross to help him retake his swamp castle and the shrine to the Lady therein.

A ragtag, low-level group of would-be adventurers set out on his charge and made it to the castle, where an invisibility spell on a rogue was used to scout out the interior.

After Pataki relayed what she saw inside, including the dreadful Ogre, the party spent an uneventful night staking out the bandit's fortress.

A New Day Dawns

In the morning, adventure calls Pataki and Blanda the Frogling away but two new adventurers catch up to the group, fresh from Nightwick Village, Spruch the Fighter, one of Mayfly's hirelings, sent by him to assist and Euphemia, a ranger.

A Holy Charge

During the week, a strange priest by the name of Brother Noj of Ross approaches Persnickety. He declares her to be the spitting image of The Lady and charges her with a mission. 

The priest maintains a shrine in the ruins of a nearby castle in the Mire of Princes. A few days prior, a group of bandits led by the terrible Robin the Lawless came and drove him out of the castle. He asks Persnickety to lead the charge in retaking the castle, offering her the favor of the Church as a reward, in addition to any treasure the bandits themselves may have.

The B[asic] Team

Persnickety is unable to convince many of her companions to join her and so is left to scrounge up additional misfits to aide her holy cause.

Miranda cooked up a low level adventure for us this week, so anyone with a higher level character had to roll up a new one or use their character from one of her other campaigns.

The crew departs Nightwick Village early in the morning, led by Brother Noj. We picked up a hireling, a local woodsman, to bolster our fighting capacity.

Downtime in the Village

Thekla begins learning Fireball while Ulf and Blossom puts out advertisements for more hirelings. Mayfly begins studying the spell Conjure Elemental.

This week, with a packed partywe decide to head down into level 3 in search of Great King Death with hopes of killing him?

Not sure how that works.

A crossbowwoman and a woodsman offer up their services, but Ulf desires a Fighter to be his new heir and declines to hire either.

Into the Abbey

We leave early in the morning and depart through the cold Fog-Bound Forest for the Abbey, going in through the graveyard entrance straight to the 3rd floor.

As we process through the level, Thekla casts ESP to sense life around us.

Downtime in the Village

Ulf hires a woman-at-arms, Alke, to bolster the fighting ranks of our party. Mayfly likewise hires a trio of peasants to... carry stuff, I guess. They are Elbel, Enderl, and Kirsten.

This week, we decide to head out into the wilderness in search of Ulf's missing Shawl of Protection, lost to bandits in a drunken carousing incident in Lychgate.

Woodsmen have informed us that a group of bandits have moved closer to the village, near a bend in the river just south of town.

We suspect that this group is the bandit group we're looking for.

The werewolf-like creatures known as Dogheads have also been sighted in the region.
